First Elk in the Books for Two!

The crew with a Wyoming cow elk
The crew with a Wyoming cow elk

Leftover cow tags, unseasonably warm weather, and first elk for both Cody and Kevin.

After missing out on Wyoming deer tags, Cody and Kevin decided to try their luck with leftover cow elk tags. Neither had hunted elk before, but they knew animals used the property and that a week in Wyoming would be worthwhile regardless.

The crew spent the opening day glassing and listening in unusually warm weather. On day two, Kevin connected on a large cow exactly one week after his 62nd birthday. Rod's off-road driving helped turn a difficult recovery into a manageable one.

The following evening, Cody waited near an area where a cow had slipped away that morning. She returned near dusk, and he filled his first elk tag in a place the pickup could reach.

Both hunters came home with hundreds of pounds of exceptional meat and plans for a future bull hunt. Bubba also deserves a huge thank-you for making the trip without a tag to photograph, film, and help wherever the work needed doing.
